International Symposium on Functional Foods in Europe - Malta.
9-11 May 2007.
Taking place in St-Julian's, in Malta, this international ILSI symposium program covered hot topics related to functional foods, such as changes in dietary patterns, health trends, scientific confirmation of food claims, consumer perspectives, regulatory issues, and the impact and future of functional foods. This event took place at a time when new European regulations on claims are forthcoming. These will require clear scientific back-up, and the EFSA will play a key role.
The symposium was attended by nearly 300 participants of different nationalities, representing the ingredient and food industries, regulatory structures and universities. Nearly 100 posters were presented, and more than 30 speakers tried to clarify the diverse aspects of this huge issue.
Roquette presented a poster entitled "Beverages containing a soluble fibre - Is it possible to draw up a strategy that allows launching foodstuffs, specifically drinks and beverages, in total agreement with the WHO/FAO nutritional recommendations?".
We wanted to demonstrate:
-
that we at Roquette were able to have R&D and commercial development strategies on the same wavelength as FAO/WHO nutritional recommendations,
-
that we were able to clinically prove the nutritional and health characteristics of our ingredients,
-
and that we offer our customers personalized accompaniment in the manufacture of nutritionally correct, technologically efficient and tasty ingredients. Our chosen example was NUTRIOSE® and the glycemic responses obtained when including it in beverages.
Once again, this was an exciting opportunity for Roquette to meet customers, partners and competitors working in the same area of interest.
