European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 58, pp. 1046-1055.
VAN DEN HEUVEL E.G.H.M., WILS D., PASMAN W.J., BAKKER M., SANIEZ M.H., KARDINAAL A.F.M. (2004)

This study aimed at determining the gastro-intestinal tolerance of NUTRIOSE® FB, administered to 20 healthy men, at daily levels of 10 and 15 g up to 60 and 80 g, respectively, each dose consumed for 7 days.

The most serious flatulence only  occured with the highest dosages of 60 and 80 g/day, and increased bloating on the last day with 80 g/day. None of the doses resulted in diarrhoea, consequently no laxative threshold could be determined.

The digestive tolerance threshold (no symptom of digestive discomfort)  was determined as being 45 g/day.
