Energy value of a low-digestible carbohydrate, NUTRIOSE® FB, and its impact on magnesium, calcium and zinc apparent absorption and retention in healthy young men

This study aimed, among its different goals, to determine the digestive effects of NUTRIOSE® FB, administered to 20 healthy men at doses of up to 100 g/day, with progressive adaptation and distribution of 6 equal doses per day.
The only symptom was excessive flatus for intakes higher than 50 g/day, the symptoms decreasing after adaptation.
No diarrhea occured even for doses more than 100 g/day, showing that the mean laxative threshold is more than 100 g/day.
