Nutraceutical formulation

NUTRIOSE®: Fiber and excipient for nutraceutical formulations.

When developing nutraceuticals, formulators face two main problems: to ensure the claimed health properties are delivered; and that the product appeals to the consumer.

These can both be overcome with a high-performance formulation using NUTRIOSE®, advantageously combining technological and nutritional benefits.

Formulation advantages

top

  • Low hygroscopicity

NUTRIOSE® is a range of powdered products whose hygroscopicity depends on individual composition.
For comparison, the different types of NUTRIOSE® in powder form were stored at various relative humidities for 24 hours at 20°C. The table below shows the relative humidity at which the different types start to absorb water,   i e start to form lumps or to solubilize.

  • A micro-granulated powder that is easy to use

There are four main advantages of the micro-granulated form: it is free-flowing, disperses and dissolves quickly, and dust formation is modest.

  • An excipient for direct compression and other formulations

NUTRIOSE® exhibits good tableting properties and can therefore be used as a DC excipient. Two formulae illustrate these properties.

- Formula PH159ST is an example of a sugarless, rich-in-fiber suckable tablet with NEOSORB® sorbitol and NUTRIOSE®.
- Formula PH171ET is an effervescent tablet containing 1g of vitamin C and 0.6g of fiber.
