The soluble prebiotic fiber NUTRIOSE® at the Probiotech and Dietary Fiber congress

Roquette took an active part in two recent professional events: Probiotech, a congress dedicated to prebiotics and probiotics, which took place on 22-23 June 2009 in Nantes, France, and the Dietary Fiber conference, held in Vienna, Austria, on 1-3 July 2009.

At both occasions, Roquette – represented by Catherine Lefranc-Millot at Probiotech and by Laetitia Deremaux at Dietary Fiber – presented the results of a recent clinical trial, which evaluated the impact of the soluble prebiotic fiber NUTRIOSE® on some of the risk factors associated with metabolic syndrome.

This study showed in particular that a daily dietary supplementation with NUTRIOSE® in overweight male adults had resulted in significant decreases in body weight, body mass index, body fat percentage, hunger feeling and caloric intake.

The 2009 edition of Probiotech and Dietary Fiber

About 85 persons attended the Probiotech congress. Fifteen speakers, from research and industry, tried to clarify diverse aspects of this huge topic: latest scientific knowledge, regulatory context, new mixes (synbiotics), new potential development for the food, feed and personal care industries, ways of protecting and stabilizating these health ingredients. Moreover, related health themes such as obesity, infectious diseases and senescent immunity were dealt with.

As regards Dietary Fiber, which takes place every 3 years, the audience was larger with about 300 attendees. Scientists, regulators and industry representatives discussed various points such as analytical methods, processing, legislation, prebiotics, glycaemic response, satiety, and mechanisms which could explain the health benefits of dietary fibers.
